El presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador informó que la pandemia de COVID-19 en México continúa en descenso. De acuerdo con datos de la Secretaría de Salud, está en curso la quinta semana consecutiva de reducción de los casos; paralelamente la ocupación hospitalaria disminuyó 88 por ciento y las defunciones 82 por ciento.
En conferencia de prensa matutina, el mandatario sostuvo que continuará el Plan Nacional de Vacunación para aplicar refuerzos, completar esquemas de vacunación o iniciarlo, en el caso de las personas que no se han vacunado.
Afortunadamente está a la baja. (…) Estamos a dos años de la pandemia, pero lo que nos ayudó mucho es que al año ya se contaba con vacunas. Eso hay que tenerlo muy presente y por eso ahora vamos saliendo. Son buenos los resultados», subrayó.
El subsecretario de Prevención y Promoción de la Salud, Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, precisó que solo 0.8 por ciento son casos activos.
En el caso de la mortalidad destacó que ha habido días consecutivos sin defunciones. A propósito de este escenario sostuvo que “lo vamos a estar monitoreando porque ya es un indicador francamente de salida de este ciclo epidémico y consideramos que es muy alentador”.
En consecuencia, dijo, el relajamiento de las medidas sanitarias en el país podría ocurrir al llegar al punto mínimo de riesgo para la población y cuando aumente la cobertura de vacunación.
“Estamos en una reducción muy sostenida de la epidemia, como comentamos, queremos llegar al punto mínimo; llevamos estas cinco semanas (…) pero todavía queremos observar algunas semanas más para que esta reducción se mantenga estable. Si fuera esa la situación podríamos empezar a recomendar ya reducir la intensidad de algunas medidas”, pronosticó.
Recordó que es importante el esquema con el refuerzo porque “protege, reduce el riesgo de COVID grave, salva vidas, pero también ayuda a incorporarse a la vida convencional, a la vida normal, sin la necesidad de todos estos cuidados”.
Sobre la vacuna mexicana Patria, proyecto en el que trabajan de manera conjunta el Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (Conacyt) y el sector privado, señaló que los ensayos clínicos muestran resultados alentadores.
“Logra generar una muy poderosa respuesta inmune contra el virus SARS-CoV-2 y se convierte en un candidato para su investigación en la fase dos y tres”, abundó.
Si las noticias siguen siendo positivas es probable que en el segundo semestre de 2022 esté listo el proceso del ensayo clínico fase tres y, en su momento, la posibilidad de usar la vacuna de manera generalizada como un refuerzo universal dada la cobertura actual del esquema primario.
“Ciertamente la vacuna Patria es una de las primeras que en el mundo entero se propone para su vía de inoculación por la nariz; (…) ya no se necesitaría una inyección, sino un spray, un aerosol nasal”, detalló.
El subsecretario reiteró que la prioridad de la vacunación es proteger a quienes tienen mayor riesgo y posteriormente incluir a toda la población.
Al 28 de febrero, la Secretaría de Salud reporta que el 90 por ciento en la población mayor de 18 años tiene el esquema completo o al menos la primera dosis. En niñas, niños y adolescentes de 14 a 17 años el avance es del 53 por ciento.
De manera simultánea sigue el abasto de la vacuna AstraZeneca a través del mecanismo Covax; el último arribo fue de 14 millones 038 mil 500 dosis.
“Estas vacunas seguirán siendo utilizadas para continuar tanto los refuerzos como las personas que hayan quedado rezagadas”, precisó el subsecretario.
